This monitor really is not worth the money.
When the monitor actually works, the reception isn't that bad. The sound comes across fairly clear with minimal static. Occasionally, we would pick up telephone conversations - but that was rare.
We did not have any issues with range of transmission. When the monitor was working, I was able to have my child on the second floor of the home and work outside in the garden. I was pleased with this aspect of the monitor
The biggest problem for us (and the one that really sealed the fate of this review to one out of five stars) was that the longevity of use on this monitor was pathetic. We bought the monitor from Babies R Us and did get a warranty. The monitor worked for about 2 months, then completely died. We only were using AC current (no batteries).
We did return the model still under warranty, and that next one only worked for about 1 month. Same thing happened.
While the lights function of the monitor (monitor lights different colors with intensity of noise) was kind of cool, overall this monitor was not at all worth it.
I would advise a friend to invest in a more expensive model known for a long life that will see parents through several years worth of babies. Otherwise, users just wind up buying a less expensive monitor more often. In the end, there is no savings, and this model certainly was not reliable.
