Since I've lugged a heavy car seat through many airports, I truly had an appreciation for the ease of this product when I tested it on two flights with my daughter. The Travelmate was easy to assemble and it took me only five minutes to attach the product to our car seat the first time, thanks to very clear instructions.
In the airport, the wheels rolled smoothly and stayed on a straight course whether moving forward or backward, even when my daughter rode in her car seat. The wheels are just tall enough that they can clear small bumps easily, rolling smoothly over moving sidewalk exits and uneven pavement.
The handle is comfortable and tall enough to accommodate most adults, and it locks securely in the tallest position. The handle was hard to lock in the lowest position for storage and installation.
Installing the car seat on the plane was no more difficult with the Travelmate attached. It's important to note that you can leave the Travelmate attached to the car seat on a plane, but you can not leave it attached to the car seat when you're on the road.
The FAA recommends that all children under 40 pounds ride in a car seat while on a plane. Carrying a car seat through an airport while holding a child's hand, carrying a child, carrying luggage and juggling IDs and boarding passes is not easy, though. The Travelmate definitely makes travel with little ones easier, and is well worth the cost (about $80), especially if you travel frequently.
