North Dakota Child Safety Seat and Seat Belt Laws

By , About.com Guide

North Dakota state law requires that children under age 7 ride in a car seat or booster seat. The car seat or booster seat must be installed and used according to manufacturer's instructions. A seat belt may be used if the child is over 80 pounds and taller than 4'9". Children over 40 pounds may use a lap belt if the vehicle does not have lap/shoulder belts, or all of the lap/shoulder belts are in use, because booster seats cannot be used with lap-only seat belts.

North Dakota law also requires children ages 7 to 17 to wear a seat belt.
