By Heather Corley, About.com

The Bottom Line
If you'd like to add another line of defense in the battle to keep track of busy toddlers and young children, the Angel Alert Child Distance Monitor may help. The parent Angel Alert receiver emits a loud series of beeps when the child Angel Alert transmitter is too far away, giving parents early warning that their child is on the move. So long as parents realize that Angel Alert is not a substitute for keeping a close eye on their child, this product will enhance safety for kids in public.

Guide Review - Angel Alert Child Distance Monitor Review
Many parents know that you only have to turn your back for a second to lose track of a young child. Wandering off is not only terrifying for parent and child, it could expose lost kids to dangerous people or situations. The Angel Alert Child Distance Monitor seeks to increase the safety of young children in public places where they could wander off and get lost. The Angel Alert unit snaps in half to become a parent receiver and a child transmitter. Each piece can be worn on a string around the neck or on a clip on a beltloop or zipper pull. The parent and child pieces are lightweight, small and easy to carry. When a child wanders too far from their parent, the receiver sounds an alarm, which beeps like a loud digital watch alarm. The distance at which the alarm sounds changes based on the environment. In a densely crowded area, the alarm might sound at 10 feet, whereas the alarm might sound at 25 feet in an open space. I sent my daughter out with the transmitter, and found that the alarm worked well not only in open areas, when she was inside a vehicle, inside another building, and on the other side of a wooded area. Parents will also appreciate the long-lasting, replaceable lithium batteries that are included with the Angel Alert. As with any child safety device, the Angel Alert doesn't replace parental supervision. In addition to good supervision, though, the Angel Alert may give parents a few precious seconds to keep their child from the scary experience of being lost.
