Recalled Car Seats Archive

By Heather Corley, About.com

Do you know if your baby's car seat has been recalled? The car seats below were recalled more than a year ago, but it's still worthwhile to take a look at them, since it's easy to miss a car seat recall if you haven't sent in your registration card yet. You should register your baby's car seat with the manufacturer so they can notify you directly if baby's car seat is recalled. It's also a good idea to check NHTSA's extensive car seat recall list if you borrow a car seat from a friend or need to use an older car seat again after it has been in storage for a while. Clicking the headline links will take you to more information on the recalled car seats from NHTSA or the car seat manufacturer.

Dorel, Cosco, Eddie Bauer Car Seats Recalled
Sept. 1, 2007 - Dorel Juvenile Group has recalled 19 car seat models sold under the Safety 1st, Cosco and Eddie Bauer brands because a harness adjustment strap can slip, allowing the harness to loosen, which could allow the child to move too far forward in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. This recall includes popular Alpha Omega car seats, Eddie Bauer 3 in 1 car seats, and the Enspira and Intera convertible car seats. Only models manufactured between Nov. 1, 2003 and Dec. 31, 2005 are included. See the Dorel car seat recall notice for the complete list of models that are recalled. The manufacturer will send adjuster strap repair kits to registered owners. If you own one of the car seats listed at the Dorel site and you do not receive a repair kit, call 800-219-0509.

Graco ComfortSport Car Seat Recall
Aug. 23, 2007 - On some Graco ComfortSport convertible car seats, the lower anchorage belt may have been misrouted behind the shoulder portion of the harness instead of under the crotch belt/buckle portion of the harness. In a crash, the misrouted belt could affect the performance of the harness if the car seat is installed rear-facing with LATCH. The seat is not affected if it is used forward-facing and you have re-routed the lower anchorage belt according to the instruction manual for forward-facing use. Click the headline link for the list of affected models and instructions for re-routing the lower anchorage belt. Only seats produced between Jan. 2, 2007 and July 31, 2007 will be affected. If you are unsure of the proper lower anchorage routing, you can simply install the car seat with the vehicle seatbelt instead of LATCH to avoid the potential problem.
