The Bottom Line

The Fisher Price Safe Voyage Deluxe is a great convertible car seat. This seat was made by Britax for Fisher Price so it has a well-trusted name backing it up! This harnessed car seat can accommodate babies and toddlers from 5 to 55 lbs.

Pros

  • This is basically a Britax seat, just without all the bells and whistles, and with a lower price.
  • Nice padding.
  • Good harness weight limit.
  • Removal of the cover is exceptionally simple making clean ups easy.

Cons

  • Discontinued because Fisher Price no longer makes carseats.
  • They are hard to find.
  • There is only one crotch buckle position.

Tech Review

I wish I would have found the Fisher Price Safe Voyage convertible car seat when my children were little. It is a great car seat for the money. The shell is nice and tall, which will allow a child to be rear facing past 1 year AND 20 pounds. The harness straps are easy to move and adjust to fit the child. Since the base on the seat is narrower than many other convertible car seats, it tends to fit very nicely is smaller vehicles.

I did find that moving the seat from the recline mode to upright, and vice versa, to be a little harder than most. The LATCh belt is not attached to the seat like other Britax-made car seats. It is a belt that goes through the regular belt paths. The hooks are not simple push-button release as with other Britax models, they are just hooks. However, the latchplate on the LATCh straps is upgraded from the usual tilt-release plates on cheaper car seats, so when it comes time to loosen the LATCh belt and remove the car seat, you may have an easier time with this belt versus other types.

The Fisher Price Safe Voyage car seat has been discontinued, so the ones that can be found will likely have an older date of manufacture on them. If you do purchase one, be aware that the expiration time is based on the date of manufacture, not the date of purchase. Britax is still upholding the one year warranty on these seats as long as you have a dated receipt showing proof of purchase.
