Guide Review - Puj Tub Review
I recall my daughter's first bath with amazing clarity, and let me tell you, it was not pretty. Trying to hold onto a slippery newborn in a slick plastic tub that was baby-sized but still too big for my under-6-lbs newborn was challenging at best. There was a lot of crying, from her and from me. Possibly also from my mother, who tried valiantly to help the bathing process along. The Puj Tub creates a little foam cocoon that your baby can nestle into. There's nowhere for baby to slide around, and you can easily use both hands for washing. Unlike hard plastic tubs, the Puj Tub doesn't feel cold and slick. The foamy material feels warm and soft.
The second problem with my daughter's first bath tub was that it was a monster to store. For a baby tub, the thing was enormous! The Puj Tub unfolds so that it's flat for storage. You can hang it on a hook in the shower, lay it against the wall of the tub, stash it in an under-sink cabinet, etc.
During bath time, the Puj Tub holds a small amount of water in the bottom to help baby stay warm. Little drain holes in the sides allow the water to flow out before it gets very deep, though, so you don't have to worry that baby will go under if you need both hands for washing her hair. Since the water can flow through, it also helps keep that little bit of water inside the tub clean for rinsing. Note: if you're going to have water running while baby is in the tub, make sure you get the temperature adjusted before settling baby in and check the temp often. Turning the water on while baby is in the tub could give baby a chill from water that's too cold, or could result in a burn if the water is too hot.
Being able to bathe baby in the sink is helpful since it's sometimes literally a pain to do so in a big bath tub. Kneeling on a hard bathroom floor and leaning over a regular tub causes aches in several places. The Puj Tub isn't the only option for sink-bathing, but it's one of the most versatile options since it can be used in fairly small sinks and stores so easily.
The Puj Tub costs about $40, which is on the more expensive side for a basic baby tub. However, if bathroom space is at a premium in your house, or you've had a baby-bathing experience like I had with my daughter, that $40 may be well worth it. The only other downside I can see with the Puj Tub is that you may not be able to use it for as long as the bigger plastic baby tubs if your baby is very tall or heavy. You can probably use it for about 6 months if your baby is average size or smaller.
