What is an All-In-One Cloth Diaper?

By Heather Corley, About.com

Question: What is an All-In-One Cloth Diaper?

Answer: All-in-one cloth diapers combine all of the parts of a traditional cloth diapering system in one easy to use piece. These cloth diapers have a waterproof outer layer, absorbent material on the inside and snaps or hook and loop tape on the top to secure the diaper.

Most cloth-diapering parents use all-in-one diapers as an "on the road diaper," for use when they're away from home. This is because some all-in-one diapers are less absorbent than other types of cloth diapers, and because the waterproof outer layer often doesn't stand up to daily use and washing. While all-in-one diapers are easier to use away from home, you may want to get very familiar with your baby's diaper habits before relying on a less-absorbent diaper while you're away from home for long periods of time. Halfway through a road trip is not the time to discover that your baby's bladder is too much for a new diaper style!

All-in-one diapers are often referred to as "AIOs" in cloth diapering groups.
