Should I Buy a Custom Car Seat Cover?

Friday January 18, 2008
Not all car seat covers are cute, unfortunately. However, this is one baby gear area where I suggest you save your pennies. Whether it's plain or fancy, the cover that came with your baby's car seat is the best, and safest, one to use for several reasons, including flame resistance and proper fit. Take a look at some reasons why my recommendation, as your Baby Products Guide and as a child passenger safety technician, is that you skip custom car seat covers.

I would have people know that it has clinically been shown that the chemicals in many conventional laundry product have shown up in the bloodstream of adults. These chemicals are absorbed through the skin and can lead directly to liver toxicity, nervous system disorders, and cancer. Aside from that, exposing new babies to the many toxins found in such products isn’t a good idea. Allergies and asthma are not things you are born with, they are developed from environmental exposure. Just something to think about.
