Bathe Baby Safely
Tuesday October 23, 2007
Though most of us have put away our pool and beach gear for the winter, it's important to remember that there are still water hazards for babies and toddlers in and around your home. The Consumer Products Safety Commission recently released an advisory about child safety in bath tubs, spas, buckets and other containers that a child could potentially fall into. According to CPSC, more than 300 children drowned in non-pool incidents between 2002 and 2004. Babies and toddlers can be seriously hurt in just an inch or two of water, but many parents may not notice some types of water hazards that otherwise appear harmless, such as a bucket that has collected some rain water. Other parents may be lulled into a false sense of security at bath time by infant bath seats or tub inserts.
Taking some precautions around the house can greatly reduce the chances of your child being affected by such a tragedy. Here are some bath tub safety tips and some additional home safety tips for parents of babies and toddlers.
