Evenflo Embrace Infant Car Seat Recalled
Thursday May 10, 2007
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently announced a recall of Evenflo Embrace infant-only car seats because, when the car seat is used as an infant carrier outside of the vehicle, the handle can release, allowing the carrier to tip forward. Infants inside the carrier can fall out and hit the ground when the handle is released. Almost 700 incidents of the handle releasing during use were reported, and 160 injuries, including a skull fracture and two concussions, resulted from the falls.
Your Evenflo Embrace infant-only car seat is included in the recall if it was made before April 8, 2006, and has a model number beginning with 317, 320, 397, 398, 540, 548, 549, 550, 556, 597, 598 or 599. You can find the manufacture date and the model number on a label on the bottom of the car seat and also on the stay-in-car base. About 450,000 car seats are included in this recall.
Recalled models of the Evenflo Embrace are still safe to use in the vehicle as a car seat. However, you should not use the carrier handle until you receive and install a repair kit to prevent the handle release and fall hazard. Contact Evenflo at 800-490-7497 or www.embracehandle.com to receive your repair kit or for further information. Owners who registered their Evenflo Embrace car seat should receive notification and instructions automatically. Do not return the recalled car seats to stores.

How many cruddy products will evenflo have to make and how many of our children will be injured until this lack of concern for our children and grandbabies stops! The amount of recalls on Evenflo products for danger reasons is absolutely ridiculous!
I agree with Debbie on the recalls of Evenflo products. I have worked in Childcare for almost 30 years, and refuse to buy Evenflo products for any child, INCLUDING the upcoming birth of my 2nd Grandchild!
Well I wish that I did my research on Evenflo. My 2.5 month old son fell face first onto a concrete floor with commercial grade carpet which is really thin. I am a so mad right now cause I didn’t know there was even a recall on these. He fell on his head and landed on his back. The carrier handle let go. It sounded like it clicked in but it obviously didn’t. I am going to get my money back for this and purchase one that is not an Evenflo.
