Do I Really Need a Changing Table?

Every parent has his or her own ideas about which baby products are considered "must-haves." Changing tables have been a topic of discussion among the moms I know lately, with a fairly even split between those who can't live without one and those who think they're a waste of space.
A matching changing table does round out the nursery and looks good with the other nursery furniture if you're going all out on a luxury nursery. And the convenience of a ready-made diaper changing area of the right size and height is unbeatable. However, parents on a budget, or those with minimal space, argue that it's just as easy to change a diaper on a portable mat placed on a bed, couch or floor. Does the convenience of a changing table outweigh the cost and extra space? That's a choice every parent-to-be has to make based on their own budget and nursery decor dreams.
