Kansas Legislature Taking Another Look at Car Seat Laws
Saturday January 21, 2006
Child passenger safety laws are changing in many states, becoming more stringent to better protect children through early elementary school-age. Current Kansas car seat laws only require children under age four to be restrained in a car seat, but a new Kansas House bill that faces legislative committee hearings this week would beef up the law to require booster seats for kids under age eight, under 80 pounds, and shorter than 4'9". This bill is part of a nationwide effort of child passenger safety advocates to promote booster seat use to protect young children who are not yet ready to ride in a regular seat belt.
