Indiana Extends Upper Age Requirements for Booster Car Seat Use
Tuesday June 7, 2005
Indiana parents will soon be required to put children ages 4 to 7 in booster car seats. The state currently requires children under 4 to be in a car seat, and that law will remain in place. Though many states require children to ride in car seats until age 4 and 40 pounds, child passenger safety advocates have long said that booster seats for children through age 8 would go a long to towards ensuring that more children were safe on the road. Booster car seats position an older toddler or young child so that the vehicle's lap-shoulder seat belt lies across their chest and hips properly. A proper seat belt fit significantly reduces vehicle crash injuries for this age group.
